However, as we don’t use chemicals or synthetic detergents that can be harmful to your skin, any of our products are safe to use on the whole family.

We just don’t recommend using our scented bars on children under 2 years old, because they contain pure essential oils.

AND because our products are all natural, our bars will sting eyes, so just keep the suds away from their eyes when washing / rinsing.

YES! The neck sizes for both bottles are the same size however...

As the 10ml bottle is much shorter than the 50ml bottle, the pipette will not reach the bottom of the bottle. You would need to tip / angle the bottle to reach the oil as it reduces.

Not yet... At the moment it's difficult for us to fully clean, sanitise, and remove the labels on returned bottles and tins.

We also have to weigh up the emissions and cost to return bottles / tins to us, over the benefit of being able to reuse them.

We'd really like do, so we're looking into a few options, but until then you can recycle or repurpose all packaging at home :)

Our products are natural. This means that we don't use preservatives to extend their natural shelf life.

Our soaps 'self preserve' due to their pH, and will have an official self life of 12 months.

However we would suggest that our products are at their loveliest and freshest within 4-6 months of purchase :)

As our products contain pure butters, oils and waxes, they will be affected by heat / sunlight / cold temperatures. We'd therefore always recommend that you keep our products out of direct sunlight, in a cool place.

YES! All of our hair products are free from sulfates, silicones, waxes, mineral oils and alcohols.

We have seen many customers get back their AMAZING curls using the products below:

Softy top to toe bar

Giggle top to toe bar

Drench top to toe bar

Heavenly hair rinse

Miracle light oil

YES and NO...

It is advised to avoid all essential oils in the first trimester.

After this, there are some essential oils that are advised to avoid, and this would mean the following products are not advised to be used during pregnancy or breast feeding:

TIDE body wash bar

DRIFT shampoo bar

HERBIE hair rinse

FAUNA deodorant

FACE DROPS 3

Our products are all safety tested, so all essential oils are present within safe limits, and with products such as soaps (shampoo bars or body wash bars), they are ‘wash off’ products so the exposure is reduced further.

Great CONCHUS products to use during pregnancy and breast feeding:

- Any of our Miracle range. The balm is amazing on dry 'pregnancy skin', and the light oil contains lashings of argan oil to help the elasticity of expanding bumps :)

- Our Softy and Giggle top to toe bars are extra gentle and extra nourishing for sensitive skin that needs a little extra tlc.

- Our Miracle Lip Balm is an essential for every hospital bag, and will be a God send after all that gas and air!

- When your hormones are raging, women can often find this affects their body odour. Our Flora and Breeze Deo Creams will always have your back in keeping you fresh, and our Cloud Deo Cream is perfect if your skin is particularly sensitive during pregnancy.

- And who wouldn't need some rest after all that growing, and with sleep often compromised, a little bedtime routine with our Face Drops 2 which is replenishing, nourishing, and with ylang ylang essential oil, it'll certainly relax you into some well needed sleep and add to your already glowing skin.

There is quite a good list of essential oils during pregnancy here https://www.parents.com/pregnancy/my-body/pregnancy-health/essential-oils-during-pregnancy-whats-safe-and-what-to-avoid/

We hope that helps, but if there’s anything else we can help with please drop us an email camilla@conchus.co.uk

Hair Care

Not in the traditional sense, but as our shampoo bars are packed with a balance of nourishing natural oils, the bar itself contains all the ‘conditioning’ that your hair needs. We stock a range of hair rinses, that are perfect to follow the shampoo bar with, as they will balance the hair and make it soft and manageable.

We know an acidic hair rinse might sound a little too ‘hippie’ for you right now (we felt the same when we first came across it!), but for ‘conditioning’ your hair – it’s a game changer!

Our hair rinses are tried and tested, and contain extra ingredients that will love your hair, or alternatively, you can make your own hair rinse by following the information below…

In an old spray bottle mix 110ml acid (apple cider vinegar / lemon juice), 400ml water, and 8-10 drops of our favourite essential oil (optional).

After washing the shampoo lather from your hair, generously spray your hair all over, massage into the roots, comb along the length, and rinse with warm water.

If your hair is longer, don’t forget to tip your hair over, and spray the rinse under there too! Once you rinse thoroughly, your hair will instantly feel softer, really clean and manageable!

Give it a try, and let us know on Facebook or Instagram how you get on. Or if you could still do with some help or advice, always feel free to email us at camilla@conchus.co.uk.

We all use the shampoo bars, so we’re kinda experts with them :)

The first thing to realise is that shampoo bars are not the same as commercial shampoos.

They contain very different ingredients, and they have a different affect on your hair. However, they are perfectly suitable for anyone to use, and we’ve been using them for some time now with no difference compared to using a commercial shampoo.

Some people say that your hair needs time to ‘detox’ or adjust to shampoo bars. They suggest that the build up of silicones, styling products and the commercial shampoo itself, takes a little time to fully remove from the hair, cuticle and scalp.

Personally, we used shampoo bars, and after a couple of washes felt they worked really well on our hair. We even think our hair looks much thicker and healthier since using them, and many customers say the same too!

If you have long hair, or if you live in an area with hard water, you might feel like there is a ‘residue’ left on your hair. Perhaps it all started so well, but now your hair feels a little dull or ‘waxy’?

We’d recommend taking a little extra time to really rinse the shampoo bar lather out of your hair, and use a hair rinse to really ‘condition’ your hair. Persevere and be patient with it, and soon you’ll have beautiful healthy, shiny hair, that will probably not need to be washed as often as you previously did.

We stock several hair rinse options, but you can make your own by following the recipe below:

Ingredients

YES! All the ingredients we use are 100% natural with no compromise on quality. Our bars are made with a blend of oils and butters, scented with only 100% pure essential oils and coloured with natural colourants.

Our soaps are also free from ‘nature-identical’ ingredients, such as micas and synthetically produced so-called ‘natural’ colourants and fragrances.

ABSOLUTELY! Our ingredients list is simple. Beautiful natural oils and butters, water, sodium hydroxide (a compound that turns oils into soap – none is left in the remaining bar), pure essential oils, natural salts, plant waxes, plant extracts and clays.

And NOTHING else :)

NO! The environmental impact of producing palm oil is a real hot topic, with questions even being asked about the ‘sustainably sourced’ varieties.

Palm oil is found in many soaps (pretty much everything sold in a supermarket!) and skincare products, but it’s impact on the environment is something we feel strongly about, and therefore non of our products contain palm oil.

We have carefully checked all ingredients, making sure that they don't contain anything derived from palm oil (even sustainably sourced palm oil).

All of our products are made in a small studio in Devon, UK. We make all of our goodies on a small scale, in small batches completely by hand.

There are no factories making them in volume, without the real care and attention they deserve.

We make, cut, label, wrap and pack all of our products completely by hand, and the other products we stock, are all made by small scale producers with the same love that we have.

NO! Over the years we’ve been told that ‘soap’ is drying for our skin, not to use it, and opt for a body wash that is more ‘moisturising’. The thing is, commercial soap isn’t really soap, it’s a detergent.

Commercial soaps are made using foaming agents, detergents, preservatives, fragrances, etc that are synthetic additives to make soap lather, clean, make bubbles and smell good. It’s not surprising that these will upset the harmony of your skin, be far too harsh, and therefore drying. Turn over the bottles and bars in your local supermarket, and you’ll see all those unpronounceable names in the ingredients list.

So, do our natural soaps not clean enough then? They definitely do!

You might be surprised to know that coconut oil is an amazing cleanser, and when balanced with other nourishing oils like olive oil, sweet almond oil and cherry kernel oil, and deeply moisturising butters and oils like shea butter, cocoa butter, mango butter, jojoba oil and avocado oil, a bar is made that doesn’t strip your skin of all it’s natural, harmonising oils, but is just the right balance of cleaning and caring.

We always feel so refreshed after using our bars, but our skin is not tight and uncomfortable. Many customers have commented that they don't even need to use a body moisturiser anymore!

Sodium hydroxide (or sometimes called lye), is a compound that turns oils and butters into soap. It creates a process called ‘saponification’, and without it, there is no soap.

The clever thing is, we have carefully calculated our recipes so that ALL of the sodium hydroxide is used in the soap making process, and therefore NONE of it is left in the resulting bars.

This is the process for all soap making, and if done properly there is no cause for concern. The final bars will be beautifully gentle, cleansing, nourishing and moisturising just as they should be.

In theory, very little.

They are all made with a very similar ingredient list, using the same cold-process soap making method.

However in reality, we have spent a long time fine tuning our recipes and specific ingredients, to make them perfect for hair, body and face.

Some bars are designed to be more cleansing (hair bars), some are extra gentle (baby, children and face bars), and others are both cleansing and nourishing (body wash and hand wash bars).

YES! Currently all of our products are vegan friendly.

If we ever use an ingredient in future products that is derived from animals (e.g. beeswax, honey or goat's milk), this will be stated very clearly in the ingredients.

YES! We are strongly against animal cruelty in every way.

The ingredients list can be found on the listing of each product online, and on the label on the reverse of the product.

We are very transparent, as we have nothing to hide.
